How to export the chat from WhatsApp
iPhone: open the chat, tap the contact or group name, then Export Chat. Choose Attach Media if you want the attachment index to match the files. Android: open the chat, tap ⋮, then More and Export chat. Send the file to yourself and open this page on the device that has it.
Questions
- Is my chat uploaded anywhere?
- No. The file is read and formatted by JavaScript in your own browser. You can switch off Wi-Fi after the page loads and it still works.
- What's free and what's paid?
- The preview is free and shows the whole chat. The PDF of the first 40 messages is free, with a watermark. The full PDF without a watermark is a one-off $9. You pay once, there's no subscription, and it unlocks this browser.
- What does the SHA-256 hash do?
- It's a fingerprint of the exact export file you used. If anyone questions the PDF, re-hashing the original file will show it hasn't changed.
- Will a court accept it?
- Rules differ by court and country, so ask your lawyer. ChatExhibit produces the format usually asked for: sender, date and time on every message, consecutive numbering, nothing silently removed. This is not legal advice.
